Wayne County GPS Monuments
(Read Me First)

About Wayne County's GPS Monuments:

The "GPS Monumentation" process began in February of 1996. Through the course of the four years that followed, a great deal of coordination and cooperation from various governmental and private entities culminated to produce this final product.

A "Qualification Based Selection (QBS)" process was used to choose the most appropriate firm and enter into a contract. Geodetic Services or Salem, Ohio was selected as the prime consultant, and with assistance from Technical Land Consultants they completed the GPS Monumentation, data collection/reduction and the "Blue Book" submittal to the "National Geodetic Survey (NGS)".

The "GPS Monumentation Project" will make it possible for different governmental entities to coordinate mapping onto one standardized countywide grid system. This project was the first step in a long journey to a countywide "Geographic Information System (GIS)".

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in this extensive project.
